To put it in simpler terms, anxiety is your body’s response to stress. What is Anxiety?Ĭan you remember the feeling of going back to school after the summer break and the night before your first day back you have this unsettling feeling in your stomach and you can’t get to sleep no matter what you try? That’s anxiety. This can cause the individual to avoid being educated on why they are feeling that type of way and just continue living their lives with a persistent dark cloud over their shoulders. This usually results in negative outcomes because the mental disorder is left untreated and the individual will continue to feel unpleasant thoughts within their day-to-day activities.Īs a matter of fact, many undiagnosed mental health victims are reluctant to mention the way they feel to their health care practitioner with the fear of being dismissed or being told that “it’s all in your head”. Yet, with the stigma behind mental health, there are many individuals that are not able to identify what anxiety is and they tend to normalize the disorder as something that makes up who they are. Anxiety only becomes a disorder when it starts to incorporate itself in your day-to-day activities. However, if the feeling still continues even after the event, then you probably do need treatment to help ease your anxiety. If you are experiencing short episodes of this and then the feeling quickly dissipates, then you probably don’t require treatment.
